چکیده

If a posterior tooth has been lost and is not restored immediately, the patient may subsequently experience a variety of problems. The adjacent teeth tend to tilt and rotate, and the opposing tooth may overerupt. Available options to restore occlusion include elective root canal treatment with invasive tooth reduction, surgical impaction or orthodontic therapy requiring extraoral headgear or full-arch braces to reinforce anchorage.1-4 Unfortunately, these treatments may be inconvenient and they are not always as effective as desired, since the loss of anchorage is always evident. To avoid lengthy and unpredictable treatment, many restorative dentists prefer to perform elective root canal treatment followed by aggressive tooth reduction to restore the occlusal plane. However, the advent of titanium Selective Intrusion of Overerupted Upper First Molars Using a Temporary Anchorage Device: Case Report

Direct usage of miniscrew anchorage to intrude overerupted maxillary posterior teeth before prosthodontic preparation: a case report

Overeruption of maxillary molars due loss of opposing teeth creates occlusal and functional interferences. Before reconstruction can be initiated, intrusion of overerupted molars becomes essential. This report illustrates treatment of overerupted maxillary premolar and molar via direct use of miniscrew anchorage. A 24-year old female had lost first and second left mandibular molars due to pulpa...

A Novel Treatment Approach for Extruded Maxillary Molars

Two approaches are currently used to correct overerupted/extruded posterior teeth, the “prosthodontic” and the “orthodontic” one. This report presents a novel orthodontic approach for selective molar intrusion. In two females (26 and 20 years), a modified transpalatal arch (TPA, equivalent to a couple with a 30 g net force) was used to move the tooth bodily. A 50 g force was applied to the over...

Evaluation of periodontal condition in intruded molars using miniscrews

Introduction: The purpose of this preliminary study was to evaluate the periodontal condition of intruded molars in various phases of treatments. Methods: 30 patients with at least one overerupted upper first molar were selected. Upper molar bands with brackets were cemented. Two miniscrews were placed in the mesiopalatal and mesiobuccal aspect of the aforementioned teeth. A titanium molybdenum...

Molar Uprighting Using Mini-Screws after Distalization by the Pendulum Appliance: A Case Report

A 16-year-old Class II female patient was treated without tooth extraction. The upper first molars were distalized by the Pendulum appliance. After six months, the molars tipped significantly to the distal. To correct this side effect, we decided to upright the molars using skeletal anchorage. On each side, a mini-screw was inserted between first and second premolars in the buccal cortical plat...

Transalveolar screw: a new concept for orthodontic anchorage.

The purpose of this article is to describe the use of a new trans-alveolar screw (TAS) as a temporary orthodontic anchorage device for the posterior maxilla, to intrude overerupted maxillary molars. To date, five consecutive patients have been treated with these newly designed screws. Intrusions achieved ranged from 2.1 and 6mm (mean 4.7 mm). The TAS is cheap, easy to place and remove by the or...
